Introduction
A village worth knowing slowly.
Lindos is one of those rare places that gives everything away at first sight — the white village, the rock, the two bays — and keeps something back. The acropolis holds three thousand years of it: Dorian foundations, a temple to Athena, the fortress walls of the Knights of St John. The lanes below it were built by sea captains, and their houses still stand shoulder to shoulder around the small squares.
Everything on this page is within a short walk or drive of Vasilikos. This is how we would spend a day in Lindos ourselves.

Rise early and climb before the heat — the Temple of Athena Lindia, the Knights' fortress walls and the whole sweep of the bay from above.

Lindos Bay
The main beach in the great circular bay — golden sand, shallow clear water, tavernas along the shore.
Pallas Beach
Beneath the acropolis itself, quieter, with fishing boats on the sand and the rock rising behind.
St Paul's Bay
A sheltered turquoise cove below the rock, named for the chapel where the apostle is said to have landed. Best early, before the boats.
